Chronicle Books joins How2Recycle

Chronicle Books is the latest member to join How2Recycle and is the first book publisher in the on-package recycling label program. Chronicle Books is an independent award-winning publisher of illustrated books and gift products in design, art, architecture, photography, food, lifestyle, pop culture, and acclaimed children’s titles

Chronicle Books will be using the How2Recycle label initially on its plastic film packaging around journals, one of the wide variety of plastic wraps that can go in retail store bins with plastic bags. These include bags, wraps, and other films using Resin Identification Codes #2 and #4, and items with the How2Recycle Store Drop-Off Label.

This label is part of a partnership with the American Chemistry Council’s Flexible Film Recycling Group (FFRG), that provides sponsorships for How2Recycle participation including Chronicle Books.

“It’s very exciting to see the book and paper hard goods sector join How2Recycle through Chronicle Books, as many of these items include PE film for product protection that many people don’t think to recycle,” said Anne Bedarf, Senior Manager with GreenBlue. “As with other plastic films, the Store Drop-off message is important to keep these valuable films out of both the landfill but also materials recovery facilities where plastic film becomes contaminated and causes a problem for sorting equipment.”

“Chronicle Books is committed to sustainability and finding ways to reduce our environmental footprint. This responsibility is reflected in our choice of materials, thoughtful design, and in our daily office life. Partnering with How2Recycle for the Sukie Rescued Paper Journal line seemed like a natural fit, and we’re proud to be helping to educate our consumers on the recyclability of plastic films.”
