EGAT confirm major sponsorship of inaugural Sustainable Energy & Technology Asia

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is Thailand’s leading state-owned power utility under the Ministry of Energy, responsible for electric power generation and transmission for the whole country as well as bulk electric energy sales.

As the largest power producer in Thailand, owning and operating power plants of different types and sizes which are located in 40 sites across the country with a total installed capacity of 15,010.13 MW, EGAT’s power generation facilities consists of 3 thermal power plants, 6 combined cycle power plants, 22 hydropower plants, 8 renewable energy plants, and a diesel power plant.

EGAT has confirmed its Diamond Sponsorship of Thailand’s new premier exhibition and conference for sustainable and renewable energy and technologies that help drive industry. Sustainable Energy & Technology Asia will take place at BITEC, Bangkok on 23rd-25th March 2016.

Sustainable Energy & Technology Asia (SETA) is a unique platform developed specifically for international, governmental and industry discussions and collaboration on developing sustainable energy policies for the ASEAN region’s future economic development.

Mr Soonchai Kumnoonsate, Governor of EGAT, said, “EGAT is delighted to be supporting the inaugural Sustainable Energy & Technology Asia exhibition and conference as the Diamond Sponsor. The event has gained great support from the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Science & Technology, as well as a number of other key organisations, and is set to be Thailand’s premier event for the energy and transport industries.”

“We look forward to the opportunity to discuss sustainable energy policies and strategies with our national and international counterparts, including with the future challenges of meeting 202020 targets and the further development of the ASEAN power grid.”

EGAT owns and operates a high voltage transmission network which covers all parts of the country. Under the enhanced single buyer (ESB) model of Thailand’s electricity supply industry, EGAT is the single buyer, purchasing bulk electricity from private power producers and neighbouring countries and sells wholesale electric energy to two distributing authorities and a small number of direct industrial customers as well as neighbouring utilities.

Despite investment in the ASEAN Power Grid and Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline Project, benefits of increased market competition, lowered consumer prices and increased energy security have not materialised. Additional action is required to ensure the lights stay on, the regions economies are able to flourish, whilst ensuring the ever increasing demand for energy remains affordable.

Energy policy across Southeast Asia varies considerably, reflecting differences in political direction, economic development and natural resource endowments.

The SETA 2016 Conference and Exhibition will be a unique and ideal platform for participants to share views and experiences as well as to discuss the practical approach to sustainable uses of energy in the Region.
