Expert panel to discuss effective corporate fatigue management tools

Nearly 1.5 million Australians are employed in shift work, representing 16 per cent of the working population. Shift work is associated with adverse health, safety and performance outcomes. The most immediate consequence of shift work is impaired alertness, which has widespread effects on core brain functions — reaction time, decision making, information processing and the ability to maintain attention.

New studies reveal that shiftwork can have detrimental effects on employee well-being, increasing the risk of strokes, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and reduced cognitive functions, pressurising employers to manage employee wellness to avoid getting embroiled in legal issues.

Supported by the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA), marcus evans is proud to launch the only cross-industry event focusing exclusively on Shift Work and Fatigue management. The Shiftwork and Fatigue Management conference will be held in Melbourne on the 17th till the 18th of November 2016.

Shiftwork and Fatigue Management 2016 will feature an insightful panel discussion on Pursuing Practical Steps to Manage Fatigue and Reduce Overexertion which will allow delegates to deliberate on implementation policies and scheduling practices that could keep energy at work at a healthy level. Our expert panel consist of Vanessa Gorman, Nurse Unit Manager of Northpark Emergency Department, Ben Hutchinson, Regional HSEQ Manager - ANZ of GCP Applied Technologies and Rosemary McKemmish, Monash Doctors Wellbeing Officer of Monash Health.

Other speaker presentations include Lyndsey Jack from Grand Hyatt Melbourne, Dr Claire Marrison, from Airservices Australia, Adrian Rowland from Yarra Trams, Steve Groenewegen from Ports of Auckland, Georgia Nicholls of Victorian Taxi Association, Darren Cook from Qantas and Ngoc-Bich Huynh from WorkSafe Victoria.

The focus of this year’s conference will be on employee training. Sessions will address how employers can increase engagement with employees to reduce fatigue-causing agents, both in and out of the work place. Additionally, this event will also look at the aviation sector and how they are leading in fatigue management.
