Fuji Xerox Singapore supports World Environment Day

Fuji Xerox Singapore renews its commitment to eco-sustainability with new initiatives on World Environment Day, June 5, 2014.

This year’s theme of “Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level” focuses on the increasing sea levels caused by climate change, which is worsening with the rise of human practices such as irresponsible paper consumption. Fuji Xerox Singapore hopes to raise awareness of eco possibilities at the workplace, such as using sustainably produced paper to reduce the negative impact on the environment.

Fuji Xerox to hand out 5,000 reams of FSC™-certified paper to consumers

With the aim of encouraging responsible paper usage, and to promote the use of paper from responsibly managed forests that have been certified for their social and environmental practices, the firm will be handing out 5,000 reams of Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC™) certified paper on Thursday, June 5 and Friday, June 6, at participating retailers.

The first hundred customers at Best Denki, Courts, Gain City and Harvey Norman outlets will receive a ream of Fuji Xerox Everyday paper. Fuji Xerox has also previously conducted an outdoor campaign on Earth Day in April, with four roving trucks with the wording ‘Show Your Care for the Environment’ going around the island to increase awareness on the benefits of using FSC™-certified paper.

Mr Atkin Pang, Senior Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, Fuji Xerox Singapore, said, “We are committed to our eco-conscious activities, having key business partners on board with us on our eco-journey. Our paper supply operation has been certified by the FSC™ Chain of Custody since March 2010 for sustainable compliance, and we have also seen an increase in demand by 75.5 per cent from 2012 for our FSC™-certified paper from our customers.”

Fuji Xerox’s paper supply sources its raw materials only from responsibly managed forests where trees are being replanted to preserve the natural environment and prevent deforestation. The company also ensures that the paper mills abide by stringent eco- standards by striving to mitigate impacts to the air and water during the manufacturing process. As a result, the brand’s FSC™-certified paper protects not only woodland and biodiversity, but also the livelihood and long-term wellbeing of local forest communities.

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) states that one million tonnes of paper is used globally every day, and the high demand for paper can cause forest destruction as suppliers carry out illegal logging to meet this need. This one million tonnes of paper is equivalent to 12 million trees absorbing atmospheric carbon for a whole year, and the high carbon level adds to the growing problem of global warming.

In Singapore, Fuji Xerox collects over 60 per cent of used toner cartridges and recovers all 100 per cent of product spare parts for recycling. Its fleet of over 60 service vans will also be completely refreshed and certified to the Euro 5 standard, the highest eco-standard now available for environmentally-friendly commercial vehicles. This exercise is expected to be completed by June 2014.

Contribute to the business community with smart office green ideas

Fuji Xerox will also launch a Facebook campaign on Monday, June 2. Running till Sunday, June 8, the contest invites customers and consumers to share their office eco-practices, to raise awareness of green possibilities in the office environment. Participants simply post their entries on Fuji Xerox Singapore’s Facebook page and will stand to win shopping vouchers worth $50 each. Winners will be announced on June 10, and more details can be found on the Facebook page at http://facebook.com/FujiXeroxSingapore.
