IHS Malaysia wins ‘Life at Work Award’ in recognition for its workforce diversity initiatives

IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), the leading global source of critical information and insight, today announced it won the prestigious ‘Life At Work Award 2015’ in Malaysia for undertaking key initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion in the workforce.

Organized by the Talent Corporation Malaysia in collaboration with Malaysia’s Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, the Life at Work Award 2015 for Best Lean Organization recognizes and celebrates IHS as one of the top five employers in Penang, Malaysia, for having successfully increased the diversity of its employee population. Other category winners are Maybank, IBM, Shell and KPMG for Best Malaysian Organization, Best International Organization, Best Initiative and CEO Champion, respectively.

“To be recognized as an early champion of diversity and inclusiveness is a great testimony to the vision and leadership at IHS to pioneer programs that connect women and minorities to career opportunities,” said Vimaleswari Ramasamy for the IHS Centre-of-Excellence (CoE) in Penang. Ramasamy is the first Malaysian female to be hired as managing director for a multinational company in Malaysia.

“Already, women today make up 54 percent of the IHS workforce in Malaysia, with the recruitment of women maintained at more than 50 percent throughout 2013 and 2014, while over half of the newly promoted positions have been targeted at women,” Ramasamy said. “The programs have been a great success.”

IHS in Malaysia runs several key initiatives, including diversity focus groups, women’s mentoring circles, the Career Comeback Programme (or ICARE) and senior women cohort sessions. The cohort sessions are proactive programs designed to attract, develop, retain and connect employees from ethnically diverse backgrounds, with a goal of keeping a high percentage of women in the workforce.

“These programs foster skills and career development, while showcasing women as visible, proactive role models,” said Shankar Nagalingam, human resources director for IHS in Malaysia. “The initiatives have been a great differentiator for IHS as an inclusive organization in Penang.

IHS first opened its CoE in Penang in 2012 to expand its capabilities to support customers and colleagues worldwide, and today oversees a wide range of functions including IT, finance, customer care, sales, order management, creative services, research and analytics, and human resources.
