Last call for nominations for Frost & Sullivan’s 4th edition of Green Manufacturing Excellence Awards

Frost & Sullivan is proud to announce the 4th edition of its ‘Green Manufacturing Excellence Awards, scheduled for April 26, 2013 in Mumbai. The last date for nominations to participate in the award program is November 30, 2012.

The objective of this awards platform is to propagate the concept of sustainable development and assist companies in adopting the same through assessments, feedback, benchmarking, and sharing of best practices.

Keeping the idea of “Sustainability for Business Perpetuity” in mind, Frost & Sullivan launched the ‘Green Manufacturing Excellence Awards’ in 2009. This elaborate annual cycle ends with recognizing companies that have been front-runners in the sustainable development journey on a national platform.

Organizations that have successfully embarked on their journey toward sustainable development, have secured a competitive advantage by adopting green manufacturing practices, thus proving to be the preferred choice of consumers and investor community. They will pioneer growth in the next decade and take up the daunting task of innovating, designing, and manufacturing more environmentally sound products, while embracing cleaner technologies. They will eventually emerge as leaders in green manufacturing.

Nitin Kalothia, Associate Director, Manufacturing & Process Consulting Practice, Frost & Sullivan, opines, “Adoption of sustainable development initiatives have improved competitive advantage for companies across the globe. ‘Going Green’ encapsulates absolute business sense in today’s world and many early adopters of this concept in India are already reaping the benefits. Growing environmental awareness in society, increasing incidence of global warming, and rapidly depleting natural resources will eventually drive organizations toward implementing sustainable manufacturing practices.”

Frost & Sullivan’s Green Manufacturing Excellence Model is built on 11 parameters of evaluation. The model is built on a total of 1,300 points and each parameter has different weightage based on its importance. The pre-defined parameters of evaluation are Energy, Material, Products and Services, Wastes and Effluents, Biodiversity and General Compliance, Water, Occupational Health and Safety, Society, Emission, Green Procurement and Goal Setting and Deployment. Initiatives taken and results achieved by organizations towards Reduce, Reuse and Recycle of Materials, Water , Energy, Emissions, Effluents, Waste and Products and Services will be assessed.

The assessment process is designed to evaluate the progress made by an organization toward identifying and implementing sustainable manufacturing practices in its operations and supply chain. The assessment process will also be used to understand efforts made by organizations toward studying biodiversity and its conservation, creation of a safe workplace for employees, and impact on society as a result of plant’s operations. Efforts toward developing a green supply chain will also be reviewed.
