Mainstreaming the base of the pyramid market for an inclusive economy

BoP Hub Ltd is hosting its third annual World Convention & Expo from the 20-22 September 2016 in Singapore. This event aims to convene key business leaders, social enterprises, government subsidiaries, non-profits and other public and private entities to advance business solutions to end global poverty. The Guest-of-Honour is Emeritus Senior Minister & Grassroots Adviser, Mr. Goh Chok Tong (Former Prime Minister of Singapore) and the event will be held at ITE College Central, Singapore.

Under the theme “The Future Inclusive Economy – Mass Collaboration Across All Sectors”, the convention aims to:

·Provide a comprehensive one-stop venue to engage, connect, innovate, and accelerate partnerships to bring affordable, sustainable products and services to reach the 4.5 billion customers who make up the BoP.

·Discuss key BoP issues that are important to investors, entrepreneurs, businesses and government agencies, and recommend the way forward to stimulate new product creation, provide quality services and solutions to the poor as well as promote investor interest in the market.

·Profile the work of NGOs, foundations, institutions, development banks, corporates, and social enterprises who help improve the quality of life for the BoP to attract potential partners, donors and investors and foster a conducive environment for multi-sectorial collaborations.

The event provides the ideal platform for social entrepreneurs, leaders and technology providers from the business world to build knowledge, share experience and innovation with industry players, professionals and partners. Participants will come from a cross-section of industries such as ICT, Food & Nutrition, Energy & Utilities, Environmental Management, Water & Sanitation, Healthcare, Transportation & Logistics, Housing and Finance, Government Agencies, Charity Foundations, NGOs and Academic & Research Institutes.

Keynote speakers, who are influential change makers in the BoP sector, include Professor Stuart Hart, Founder of BoP Global Network, and Tony Meloto, Founder of Gawad Kalinga.

According to Jack Sim, BoP Hub Founder, “Our world is experiencing rapid disruption to every industry…those who continue in today’s business as usual might become obsolete very soon.”

“We need to reframe our business systems and models to focus on promoting growth and reducing poverty at the BOP which has tremendous market potential. This convention will explore key economic transformations that can mainstream the BoP and lower barriers that keep much needed services from poor people”, shared Dr Allen Hammond, Director of Health for All Program at Ashoka Foundation.

This year’s BoP World Convention & Expo will examine the nature of inclusive economies and their implications for the BoP. It will present current trends in multiple sectors and explore promising models that are already gaining traction in the BoP. It will also discuss models that are poised to transform opportunities for BoP populations while opening new markets for both social entrepreneurial ventures and established corporations. The opportunities for social entrepreneurship, investments, innovations and partnerships will continue to increase as BoP programmes build up and design business solutions to end poverty.
