Make carbon footprint part of your business strategy - New workshop

In December, CSE introduces for the first time in Dubai its Certified Carbon Strategy Practitioner Training, 11&12 December 2012 after its successful premier in NY last August. It will also offer intensive professional learning opportunities to executives and senior level managers on Corporate Social Responsibility Strategies, CR legislation, Sustainability Reporting. In addition to the above, CSE as official Training Partner of GRI in the Middle East will be addressing GRI Reporting issues in its GRI Certified Training on Reporting, in Abu Dhabi on the 9&10 December 2012.

Climate Change is one of the biggest challenges that society faces today. Apart from the international commitments (Rio, Kyoto Protocol) and national efforts to reduce emissions, organizations and businesses should also have an active role in tackling climate change. In fact, environmentally aware citizens/ consumers expect companies to place great emphasis on the delivery of concrete results. The measurement of carbon footprint is now common practice for many organizations worldwide, and to be effective should be accompanied by a Climate Change strategy.

Companies communicate to consumers a message of protecting the environment, yet, it is far more than this. Several models for calculating carbon footprint require companies to develop plans to reduce the footprint of operations/services/products over time. These actions may relate to changes in energy consumption, use of new environmental-friendly technology, changes in product packaging, or the use of raw materials with less transportation needs (emphasis on local suppliers), thus, results in the long-term reduction of carbon footprint are therefore beneficial for the environment and therefore society as a whole. Thus, many companies have begun to realize that carbon footprint and the overall carbon strategy are not just marketing but an important strategic tool that allows them to engage with stakeholders about the measurable benefits achieved for society as a whole.
