The Energy Market Authority (EMA) announced “New Energy Realities” as the theme for Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2016.
The theme reflects the opportunities and challenges we face in the current environment of an excess supply of oil and gas. Oil prices have stayed down for a longer period than most had expected. This has discouraged new upstream investments, which would impact future supply.
At the same time, the Paris Agreement following COP21 has given new impetus to the deployment of renewables. Technology progress has also continued to make energy production, systems and networks smarter, heralding new possibilities. Against this backdrop, SIEW 2016 will discuss how we can work together to navigate this period of change.
SIEW 2016 will host for the first time The 26th International Photovoltaic Science and Engineering Conference and Exhibition (PVSEC-26) as part of the Asia Clean Energy Summit (ACES). There will also be a special edition of the Asian Energy Financial and Investment Conference. Delegates can also look forward to more exhibitions:
- Gas Asia Summit will feature an exhibition alongside its conference for the first time
- EU Business Avenues in South East Asia – Green Energy Technologies 2016, an exhibition focusing on renewables, will also return to SIEW this year.
As a prelude to SIEW, EMA invited Neil Atkinson, Head of the Oil Industry and Markets Division at the International Energy Agency (IEA), to share the latest IEA Medium-Term Oil Market Report at the launch of the 2016 theme. David Hewitt, Co-Head of the Global Oil & Gas, Equity Research at Credit Suisse also participated in the dialogue on the energy outlook for 2016.
Now in its 9th year, SIEW continues to feature global energy leaders in its week-long conferences and exhibitions covering the entire energy spectrum – including oil and gas, downstream, renewables and financing. EMA’s anchor events, the SIEW Opening Keynote Address and the Singapore Energy Summit will start the week of discussions with a focus on Asia’s energy shifts, the transition to a low-carbon future, and the evolving utility business.
SIEW 2016 will be held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore from 24 to 28 October 2016.
