The Energy Market Authority (EMA) on Monday announced “Global Energy Transitions” as the theme of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2015.
The theme reflects how recent volatility in oil prices, growing energy demand in Asia, and increasing market interconnectivity are greatly reshaping the global energy landscape. This has prompted re-assessment of long-term investments in both oil and gas, and alternative energy projects.
Governments and industry need to consider how to leverage the opportunities and challenges that these developments present. Against this backdrop, SIEW 2015 will address how best to navigate the emerging energy transitions, and the impact these changes would have on the global energy system.
As a prelude to SIEW 2015, EMA hosted a panel discussion, “Global Energy Transitions”, with industry leaders. Thomas Jakob, Regional President Asia Pacific, Bosch Software Innovations; Oliver Hsieh, Associate Director, Commodities Price Risk Management, KPMG; and Jonty Rushforth, Editorial Director, Asian and Middle Eastern Oil Markets, Platts outlined key energy trends for 2015, offering a sneak preview of the discussions that would take place at SIEW this year.
The week-long programme will build on conversations from SIEW 2014, which saw more than 10,000 delegates from more than 60 countries. Key focal points of the week will include the SIEW Opening Keynote Address and the Singapore Energy Summit. Together, these provide a platform for high-level dialogue around Asia’s new energy frontiers, energy security and energy resilience.
Partner events returning for another successful edition include Asian Downstream Week, Asian Energy Financial and Investment Conference, Renewables@SIEW, Asia Clean Energy Summit and Platt’s Annual Top 250 Global Energy Company Awards Dinner.
SIEW 2015 will be held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands Singapore, from 26 to 30 October 2015.
