Swire Properties win Green Building Award

Swire Properties is pleased to announce that TaiKoo Place and Cityplaza, Hong Kong’s largest privately owned business district of 12 office towers and one shopping mall, has won a Grand Award of Facilities Management under the “Existing Building” category of the Green Building Award 2014.

AZURA, one of our residential developments in the Mid-Levels West, was also one of the finalists under “New Buildings – Completed Buildings” category. The project achieved BEAM (Building Environment Assessment Method) Version 4/04 for New Buildings Platinum rating in 2013.

The Green Building Award (GBA) is the most recognised award for sustainable buildings in Hong Kong. The GBA is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) and the Professional Green Building Council, and aims to provide recognition for building-related projects with an outstanding sustainable performance and which make a positive contribution to the built environment of Hong Kong.

This year witnessed a record number of 96 project nominations, and 62 projects were selected as finalists for final judging. Winners were selected from outstanding projects in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan and Singapore.

“We are delighted to have our green efforts recognised, said Cary Chan, Swire Properties’ General Manager of Technical Services and Sustainability. “Swire Properties is a pioneer and leader in green building management and has a long-term commitment to realising the best potential of TaiKoo Place and Cityplaza as an integrated urban community. With long-term planning and vision, we pledge to meet the property needs of our communities in a way that is environmentally, socially and economically responsible. We believe the success of sustainability is building on cooperation with all stakeholders, and we have a strong focus on engaging our tenants in a wide range of social and environmental initiatives.”

The jury panel commented that Swire Properties has devoted the last decade to their researching, among other things, comprehensive building energy management systems. The panel stated how Swire Properties’ facilities management was par excellence, and commended the Company for using computational fluid dynamic techniques to visualise external environmental conditions in order to create the best possible public green spaces.

Going forward, a seven-year redevelopment plan for TaiKoo Place, which was launched early this year, will provide two million sq ft of leading edge next generation office space and a new landscaped square of approximately 69,000 sq ft – similar in size to Statue Square in Central, Hong Kong.

Three existing industrial buildings will be redeveloped into two Grade-A office towers. Swire Properties targets to achieve a Platinum rating for both BEAM-plus and LEED for the two new office towers and 25 per cent less in energy intensity than that of One Island East, the latest high-rise, low energy building in TaiKoo Place.
