TÜV Rheinland, a global leader in independent inspection, testing and certification service, announces the first-ever TÜV Rheinland SunCupTM benchmarking test to be held in Yunnan, China.
The competition, the first of its kind in China, aims to objectively rank data on photovoltaic products.
Advanced in-house developed measurement systems will be provided in the contest by TÜV Rheinland to monitor and extract the maximum power of the participating panels continuously, while synchronizing them to the weather and irradiation recorders.
The benchmarking test simulates the operation of solar panels in a power plant for a period of over a year. During this time the panels are continuously exposed to actual outdoor conditions and maintained at their maximum operating power point while the current, voltage and temperatures are recorded by the second.
Environmental and irradiance data is synchronously recorded and provided along with the panel information for deep analysis. In the end, the top panels will be rated based on the recorded data.
All participants will receive a quarterly report outlining their position in the race, recorded power level, and temperature, environmental, weather and irradiance information, to provide objective data to analyze and market their products performance under real conditions.
“The photovoltaic market currently has a massive over-supply worldwide, and enterprises engaged in the PV market can only survive on high quality products and famous brand reputation,” according to Ulrike Therhaag, Director of Solar and Fuel Cell Technology Services,TÜV Rheinland Greater China, “TÜV Rheinland SunCup™ presents an excellent opportunity for PV module manufacturers to highlight their product’s performance and enhance brand recognition and reputation.”
