Veolia’s Biobed® Advanced Chosen by Global F&B Leader

Singapore, June 3, 2013: Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies (Veolia) is proud to have once again received recognition for its Biobed® Advanced technology by one of the world’s Food & Beverage (F&B) leaders. The global company recently selected the Biothane technology for its production facility in Thailand.

Michel OTTEN, Technical Director, Biothane Anaerobic Treatment, Asia Industrial, remarked, “We are indeed honored to have been selected by the same international brand many times over. This is truly a boost to our expertise within the F&B sector.”

The main highlight of the Veolia solution that led to this win was Biobed® Advanced’s suitability for highly concentrated effluents produced during the manufacturing processes. This is a common occurrence within the potato food processing industry. In addition, the technology’s relatively low energy consumption appealed to the company that holds strong goals to reduce its impact on the environment. And with the small footprint area of the Biobed® Advanced solution, the company was able to save significant space for future expansion.

As part of this project, Veolia will design, install, test and commission a complete water and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). In the pre-treatment stage, wastewater is screened and clarified in order to remove suspended solids, as well as fats, oils and greases (FOG). Liquid subsequently undergoes anaerobic treatment in a Biobed® Advanced reactor, in order to achieve effluent standards set by the industrial park. Any additional sludge is further processed within a centrifuge decanter. This complete WWTP will treat up to 840m3/day of wastewater.

OTTEN commented, “Veolia prides itself in our design and build projects, wherein we customize facilities to meet our customers’ specific needs. We are delighted that our solutions have successfully met over the past few years the requirements of this global F&B player. We look forward to conceptualizing and initializing wastewater treatment technologies for even more potato snack and other F&B manufacturers in the years to come.”
