In this report, we reviewed the sustainability disclosures of A-share companies in 2021.
Some of our key findings include:
- We found that 1412 A-share companies disclosed sustainability-related information in 2021, achieving a reporting rate of 30 per cent.
- We also found that for CSI 300 companies, the disclosure rate reached 90 per cent in 2021, compared with 82 per cent in the previous year.
- In addition, we found a positive association between companies’ market capitalisation and sustainability disclosure quality: larger companies tend to have better disclosure quality.
Finally, there are a lot of variations in sustainability disclosure among sectors. Three sectors, chemicals, renewable electricity, and building materials saw a reporting rate below the A-share average, with chemicals’ reporting rate the lowest at 19 per cent, suggesting catch-up in the future.
