Ruling Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum appeared for questioning at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) headquarters on Thursday morning in its investigation into a graft-ridden procurement for a solar power project at the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry in 2008.
Anas arrived at the KPK at around 11 a.m. and had finished the questioning by 1:30 p.m. after undergoing questioning as a witness for his fellow ministry official and suspect Timas Ginting.
“I am here to meet the KPK summons. This is my responsibility as a citizen,” Anas said after the questioning.
“I told investigators I knew nothing about the project. I only learned of it through the media.”
The case took place in 2008 when Timas is said to have abused his authority by approving the hire of two companies to supervise the power plant project.
The companies are PT Mahkota Negara owned by former Democratic Party’s treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin, and PT Alfindo, which is also associated with Nazaruddin. The case is believed to have caused the state Rp 3.8 billion in losses.
Nazaruddin’s wife, Neneng Sri Wahyuni, has also been named a suspect in the case, while Nazaruddin himself is a suspect in another bribery case centering around a construction project for an athletes’ village commissioned by the Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry.
