Renewable energy to be focal point in Korea-Spain ties

The Spanish Ambassador to Korea, Luis Arias Romero, says the Spanish government is keen to collaborate with Korea in the field of renewable energy.

‘We’d like to find a way of mutual collaboration… In fact, a very important field in which this cooperation could be intensified is the renewable energy sector,’ the ambassador said during an interview on March 7.

Two large Spanish renewable energy companies ? Accionia Energy and Isofoton ? already work in Korea.

Spain’s experience in the sector can serve as a role model for Korea, which is facing a growing challenge to reduce its reliance on imported fossil fuels.

Under former President Lee Myung-bak’s leadership, the drive for developing renewable energy sources as a new source of economic growth and a clean source of power rose. The private sector jumped into the field with the backing of the government.
