Cabinet reiterates commitment to nuclear safety

ROC Premier Jiang Yi-huah said March 28 that the government is committed to ensuring the safety of Lungmen nuclear power plant in Gongliao Disctrict, New Taipei City before allowing it to commence commercial operation.

“‘No safety, no power plant’ has always been our premise,” Jiang said. “The Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Atomic Energy Council must make thorough safety inspections and strengthen relevant measures.”

“It is only when the safety of Lungmen nuclear power plant is assured that people will have confidence in our decision to use the plant as an interim measure.”

The power station was constructed to stabilize power supply over the next 50 years, but the government will gradually work toward the goal of a nuclear-free homeland, he added.
