Country’s largest solar energy system unveiled

Robert Bosch Sdn Bhd aims to reduce its carbon dioxide emission by about 460 tonnes per year with the installation of the country’s largest photovoltaic (solar energy) system at its Bayan Lepas plant.

Its president and managing director for Southeast Asia Martin Hayes said the RM7mil photovoltaic system was installed on a 6,000sq m site on the plant’s rooftop, which was four times the size of a football field.

“The system, equipped with 2,300 Bosch photovoltaic modules, will be able to produce up to 850 megawatt-hour of solar energy per annum.

“In accordance with the company’s green initiative, all our lights have been replaced with light-emitting diode lights and standalone air conditioners have also been installed to save energy,” he said.

Hayes added that the photovoltaic system, which was launched by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng yesterday, would supplement energy usage at the Bayan Lepas plant.

“We are convinced that this technology has a bright future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lim called on the Sustainable Energy Development Authority of Malaysia to increase feed-in tariff quotas to hasten efforts to make renewable energy a way of life.
