Armidale trials food waste recycling system

Around 200 households in Armidale, in northern New South Wales, will be selected to trial a system that makes it easier for residents to recycle their food waste.

The “City 2 Soil” program collects and composts domestic food waste and distributes it to local farmers and residents.

“City 2 Soil” project manager Simone Dilkara is working with Armidale-Dumaresq Council to begin the trial in September.

“We’ll just have a couple of collections, make sure that we’ve got all of the bugs rolled out and make sure that the community really likes what we’re doing,” she said.

“It’s as much about making sure we’ve got the front end all sorted with householders, and also that we’ve got the systems in place to process that really efficiently at the other end.”
