The new energy subsidiary of Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co Ltd (BAIHC), is to deliver 120 electric cars to Beijing police in October, according to Lin Yi, executive director of the BAIHC new energy company.
The model C60 is based on the chassis of Saab, which was acquired by BAIHC in 2009. The charging facilities will be constructed by State Grid under a cooperation agreement.
Lin said the special feature of C60 is a plug which can be connected to 380V electricity outlet. “The owner can just plug it to a regular outlet and fully charge the battery in seven to eight hours,” Lin explained.
He added that after the charging stations and pillars are ready in the city, car owners can also charge their vehicles at public charging stations, which takes about six hours.
The company is also cooperating with BP to develop battery replacement technologies. In the optimal condition, the depleted battery can be replaced by a new one in only three minutes.
The new energy subsidiary was established in 2009, and hires 180 engineers to develop new energy passenger cars.
