Half of the world’s small-scale suppliers of polysilicon face bankruptcy in the months ahead, raising concerns on how this will affect solar panel production. Polysilicon is a key component in solar panel construction. Photovoltaic analyst Henning Wicht said the world’s biggest polysilicon firms will continue to grow production but the smaller players in the industry will have a hard time keeping afloat against a backdrop of declining polysilicon prices. The industry is pinning its hopes on emerging solar markets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and immature European markets like Turkey and Poland to drive demand again soon.
