China and India compete in tight solar market

Indian solar equipment makers are under threat from cheaper solar products from China. The Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Praful Patel said China currently has 57 per cent market share of the crystalline technology segment, which is affecting other photovoltaic (PV) manufacturers in the world. On top of this, the current overcapacity for solar power equipment and the cheaper prices of Chinese manufactured cells and modules are putting pressure on Indian solar manufacturers. The Ministry said they have already required solar developers in India to procure cells and modules from local sources to protect the domestic market.
