Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong met Tuesday with U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu in Beijing and expressed the hope for more Sino-U.S. cooperation in science and technology.
Chu is in China to attend an annual meeting of the steering committee of a Sino-U.S. clean energy research center.
Liu hoped the two countries could take the research center as a model to enhance science and technology cooperation in other areas.
China and the United States paid great attention to science and technology cooperation, Liu said.
Joint research and development could help the two countries cultivate new markets and industries, promote structural upgrading of the energy industry, and advance energy efficiency and emissions reduction.
The research center was established by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology and National Energy Administration and the U.S. Department of Energy during Chu’s visit to China in July 2009.
