Denmark offers assistance to wind power development

Denmark will help Vietnam build and operate wind farms in provinces and cities across the country. The European nation will also transfer technology and supply necessary equipment for Vietnam’s wind power industry.

Danish experts made the commitment at a workshop jointly held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and the Danish Embassy in Hanoi on November 29.

They said Vietnam has great potential for developing wind power as it has the best wind source in Southeast Asia. However, they said, Vietnam has not yet made the most of this energy source due to low technology.

MoIT officials pledge to offer incentives, creating the best possible conditions for Danish businesses to invest in this field.

According to the MoIT statistics, power generated from renewable energy sources only accounts for 2.3 percent of Vietnam’s annual electricity output, and wind power makes up a fairly small proportion.

Vietnam has developed 37 wind power projects, of which one is operational, one is under construction and the remaining projects are calling for investment.
