Diving robots to study ocean mysteries

A joint venture between the US and New Zealand is being drawn up to use remote-controlled robots to explore ocean waters for the first time. The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (Niwa) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will be investigating many environmental questions in the deep including those relating to climate change, ocean acidification, marine environmental management, fisheries ecosystem impacts, and tsunami threats. The joint missions will start in parts of the Southwest Pacific Ocean.
