Doha talks crucial in preventing disasters

A productive outcome of the upcoming UN climate talks in Doha at the end of November could help prevent disasters brought about by climate change. Administrator of the UN Development Program Helen Clark, speaking at Stanford University, stressed that it is important that climate negotiators agree to extend the Kyoto Protocol in Doha. Continuing the commitments under the Kyoto Protocol will be a key issue that could limit the carbon emissions that are responsible for climate change, she said.  She also warned that failure to agree in Doha could gravely affect future negotiations.
