New electric scooters in line with the go-green goal have been launched to complement efforts to reduce air polluting vehicle emission.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui said his ministry had identified the transportation sector where green technology would be implemented.
He added that the sector was the second highest contributor of carbon emissions, behind the industrial sector.
“My ministry is currently preparing the Electric Vehicles Infrastructure Roadmap and the Fleet Test Vehicle Programme in Putrajaya which will be launched soon,” said Chin before unveiling the line of electric scooters here yesterday.
The futuristic-looking scooters, produced by Eclimo Sdn Bhd, feature an electric motor mounted in the rear wheel, which is powered by lithium-ion batteries.
The scooters have a top speed of 100kph and a maximum range of about 100km after each charge of 3.5 hours.
They have their own power cords which can be plugged into any household outlet.
Prices for the scooter models start at RM10,000 for a unit.
Eclimo director Woo Kok Boon said the scooters would go on sale once approval was granted by the Road Transport Department.
