Eco-Business has won an award for best news website at the Asian Digital Media Awards 2019 held in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

Organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), the prestigious awards recognise Asian publishers who have delivered unique and original digital media projects in the last 12 months.

Eco-Business is Asia Pacific’s leading media platform dedicated to reporting on sustainable development and it publishes content daily on a wide range of issues for a business and policy audience as well as a growing consumer base.

The Eco-Business platform won a bronze award in the Best News Website or Mobile Service category for its journalism efforts and newly-revamped website.

Organisers said winners demonstrated combined excellence in content and UX, as well as value to readers and advertisers, and are recognised for their innovative design and use of multimedia to better tell stories.

Other winners in this category included MediaCorp’s cna.asia and South China Morning Post’s China Tech City. This year’s edition saw more than 150 entries across 11 countries. The awards recognised media platforms for their innovations in online video, data visualisation, native advertising and marketing campaigns among others. Here are the full list of winners.

Eco-Business had unveiled a newly-revamped website in April this year to mark its 10-year anniversary. The platform was revamped with a streamlined aesthetic to increase content visibility and improve user experience.

To reflect its mission to advance business and policy action around the 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs), Eco-Business also launched a new page and search function that focus on the goals.

In addition to boosted multimedia forms of content such as podcasts, short video clips on social media, and short-form documentary films, Eco-Business also categorises all types of content—news, opinion, videos, podcasts, research—to each SDG.

Users can pick, select and combine which SDG they’d like to read up on.

“We are thrilled to be recognised among the biggest Asian titles in the region. This year marks our 10-year anniversary, and when we started, no one thought we would find a viable model. Today, climate change and sustainable development have become the defining issues of our time.

“We have provided consistent, high quality coverage of these issues for a decade in the region, advancing business and policy action across industries, and educating and engaging readers on our journey,” said Jessica Cheam, founder and managing editor of Eco-Business.

“We have created a purposeful, authentic media brand that’s pioneering in this region with a growing community increasingly concerned about the future of our world. We are proud to be receiving this award and we thank all our readers, partners and team for supporting us through this decade,” she added.
