Sustainability consultancy ERM has restructured, splitting the Asia-Pacific region into two sub-regions – Asia, and New Zealand and Australia.

Nat Vanitchyangkul has been appointed Asia CEO, to be based in Bangkok. Australia and New Zealand will be led by Michael Gaggin.

Vanitchyangkul was previously business unit managing partner for South and Southeast Asia, while Gaggin continues in his role of business unit managing partner.

Liew Wei Chee has been promoted to Vanitchyangkul’s former role.

Mark Errington, the incumbent Asia-Pacific chief executive, steps down from the regional top job after almost three years to take on a new role as chairman and mergers and acquisitions lead for the region.

The London-headquartered consultancy, which has 1,100 employees across 13 offices in the Asia Pacific, counts among its regional clients oil and gas giant Shell, chemicals firm Konica Minolta, and freight transport firm Aurizon.

Vanitchyangkul said in a statement that APAC is one of the consultancy’s fastest growing regions, growing by 20-25 per cent a year. “With this new team structure, we are well poised for growth to meet the intensifying need from organisations and governments to engage in sustainability across people, operations, and supply chains to track financial and ESG-related metrics,” he said.

“The opportunities for ERM in Asia will also move in tandem with the momentum of ESG transition in key growth sectors such as technology, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, financing, transportation and logistics and renewable energy, to cite a few,” he added.

Sustainability consultancies have experienced rapid growth in recent years on the back of an uptick in post-pandemic demand for sustainability expertise.

Two sustainability consultancies, The Purpose Business and Robertsbridge, launched in Singapore last week.
