The world’s first series of vacuum cleaners made from oceanic plastic waste will be introduced to local market by Electrolux in an exhibition in Taipei.
Electrolux is an eco-savvy household-appliance company based in Sweden. In the exhibition, the company will unveil three models of vacuum cleaners made from recycled plastics collected from the world’s six oceans. This marks the next phase of the Vac from the Sea campaign, which was launched by Electrolux to raise awareness about ocean plastic waste and inspire consumers to increase recycling efforts.
The exhibition will take place from May 6 to 15 at the 5th floor of A9 of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store in Xinyi District of Taipei City.
“Our intention is to bring awareness to about ocean plastic waste,” says Cecilia Nord, Vice President – Floor Care Sustainability and Environmental Affairs, Electrolux.
The three models to be displayed in the event include the Pacific Edition concept vacuum cleaner, which is made from drifting plastic grain that fills the oceans. This plastic grain is dangerous because it can easily be swallowed by fish and in turn continues through the whole food chain to affect both animals and humans.
As part of local environment campaign, Taiwan branch of Electrolux will develop “Taiwan Edition” vacuum cleaner through cooperation with Taiwan Environmental Information Center and Tainan Community University.
