Financing South Korea’s tidal energy project

South Korean renewable energy firm Renetec plans to fund nearly a third of its groundbreaking tidal energy project from equity partners that are under requirements to purchase electricity from renewable sources.

The US$917 million 200-megawatt tidal project near Seoul will be used as a pilot to prove the technology so that it can be exported to other countries after completion in 2016 - possibly the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand.
