Finland backs Vietnam climate change fight

A Finland-sponsored project launched Thursday will help deal with climate change impacts in Mekong Delta provinces, news website Vnexpress said Friday.

Finland ambassador Pekka Hyvõnen said the embassy will donate nearly 161,000 euros (US$228,000) for the two-year project.

The funds will go to local non-government organizations that are implementing projects tackling climate change in the Mekong Delta region.

The project aims to improve community-based responses to climate change impacts as also establish a rescue communication center.

Vietnam’s Mekong Delta has been identified as a region that will be particularly hard hit by climate change impacts including rising sea levels.
