Agricultural chemicals firm FMC Corporation has appointed its first head of business sustainability in Asia Pacific.

Taking on that role is Shahid Saleem, who was previously business lead for Southeast Asia.

Saleem will be based in Jakarta and report to acting Asia Pacific president Pramod Thota as well as FMC’s chief sustainability officer Karen Totland.

FMC started out as an insecticide producer and later diversified into other industries. FMC Corporation’s business lines include biologicals, crop nutrition, and digital and precision agriculture.

The Philadelphia-headquartered company told Eco-Business that it was “an opportune time to appoint a senior and strategic leader to incorporate a commercial focus into the region’s sustainability agenda.”

The role will involve identifying and implementing business resilience initiatives, carbon strategy, government engagement and strategic philanthropy, according to the company.
