Global Business Power Corp. (GBPC) expects to complete in the third quarter the feasibility study for a biomass power plant in Negros Occidental.
“Going into biomass, we have hired foreign consultants. The study is already under way. This will be our first renewable project. The final feasibility study will be completed in the third quarter,” said GBPC Executive Vice President Jaime Azurin.
GBPC—owned by businessman George S.K. Ty—and Roxas Holdings Inc. (RHI) will jointly undertake the biomass power project in Negros Occidental. The power facility will have a capacity of 40 megawatts (MW) to 50 MW.
Pöyry Energy Ltd., a consulting and energy company, is undertaking the said feasibility study to determine the viability of the project.
Last week Azurin said GBPC is investing $1 billion to increase the company’s capacity to 1,000 MW in the next five years from the current installed capacity of 627MW. “The target is to reach 1,000 MW
installed capacity by 2018,” he said.
GBPC subsidiary Panay Energy Development Corp. on Friday broke ground its 150-MW coal-fired power plant. This is an expansion of the existing 164-MW coal plant in Iloilo City.
The expansion project will cost P15 billion and will be completed in June 2016.
