The industry ministry will discuss a plan to provide incentives for hybrid car production this week, Industry Minister MS Hidayat said here Monday.
“This week, the industry ministry will discuss the incentive scheme for hybrid cars with the finance ministry. If the incentive scheme is approved by the finance ministry, next week we will hold a meeting with the automotive industry principals to talk about hybrid car import,” he said.
For the time being, the hybrid cars will be imported from the principals’ countries, because it is impossible to produce hybrid cars in Indonesia in the very near future, he said.
Several automotive industry principals such as Toyota said they could not produce hybrid cars in 2013. They might produce hybrid cars in 2014.
“Toyota asked the ministry to produce hybrid cars in the next two till three years, but we don’t agree with the principal,” he said.
Minister Hidayat said hybrid car is fuel efficient and could become a solution to the current energy crisis in Indonesia.
“The hybrid car can help reduce the gas emission and save fuel consumption. It’s in accordance with the government’s energy efficiency program,” he said.
Earlier, Hidayat said the industry ministry is still looking for the right technological system that could reduce carbon emissions from cars to make cars more environmental friendly.
