The government is scheduled to launch its national electric car in May 2013, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan said on Thursday.
“President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will launch the electric car in May next year, but we have yet to decide the date,” Dahlan said at his office in Jakarta as quoted by kompas.com. The minister said that the automobiles would be a seven-seat van model.
The vehicles would be equipped with extra batteries to anticipate the cars running out of electricity in the middle of the road, he added.
