Malaysian Green Technology Corp (GreenTech Malaysia) will roll out 25,000 ChargEV stations by 2020 to encourage uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) and improve air quality.
In a statement here Monday, GreenTech Malaysia said the plan aimed to support Malaysia’s target of deploying 100,000 EVs in the next five years, along with the 2,000 electric busses and 100,000 electrical scooters and motorcycles.
Chief Executive Officer, Ir Ahmad Hadri Haris, said with the wide adoption of EVs, which emitted zero tailpipe emissions, it will continue to reduce Malaysia’s carbon emissions by 6.4 million tonnes of carbon emission equivalent by 2030.
“The ChargEV will play a pivotal role in encouraging the adoption of EVs and consequently reducing Malaysia’s carbon footprint,” he said.
An initial target of 300 ChargEV stations was set to be rolled out by 2016 across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya, Penang, Langkawi, Johor and Melaka, he said.
The first ChargEV stations are already operational at Mandarin Oriental hotel and The Curve.
