The company EcoPlanet Bamboo will now be the first company to be granted carbon credits for planting large-scale commercial bamboo. EcoPlanet Bamboo’s venture will involve the conversion of degraded land in some of the poorest areas of the world into commercial bamboo plantations. The plantations will get carbon credits for storing significant volumes of carbon emissions, as well as provide an alternative source for timber markets. The project will first be located in Nicaragua, but is expected to be replicated in other poor nations.
The Rainforest Alliance has validated that an initial 816,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide can be achieved from the reforestation of 3,370 acres of degraded land.
