Hitachi Plant Technologies Ltd. said Monday that it will join forces with a major water treatment company in China.
The Hitachi Ltd. (6501) unit and Chengdu Xingrong Group Co. will set up a special-purpose company next year and cooperate in such areas as building sewage treatment facilities.
The Japanese firm aims to expand global water-related sales to 200 billion yen by 2015, with China to account for 20 billion yen. Its collaboration with Chengdu Xingrong will form the core of its strategy for meeting the target.
Hitachi Plant Technologies intends to take its water services to China with the help of the Hitachi group as a whole, using cutting-edge Hitachi group systems to improve efficiency via information technology, Executive Vice President Shinjiro Ueda says.
Chengdu Xingrong has three water purification plants in western China, supplying water to 4.5 million people, and also operates nine sewage treatment facilities. The company is eager to expand.
“Hitachi has a high profile in China and also possesses technology and R&D capabilities not present in China,” Chengdu Xingrong’s chairman explains.
