Cheung moves into the role of principal manager, group environment, for CLP after more than five years with Swire Coca-Cola, which is the Hong Kong bottler for fizzy drinks brand Coca-Cola. She was head of public affairs, communications and sustainability for the Coca-Cola brand in Hong Kong.
CLP has committed to achieve net zero emissions across its value chain by 2050. The company launched a decarbonisation plan in 2007 with Climate Vision 2050, and it has ratcheted up its commitments every few years to more closely align with the global 1.5⁰C warming goal.
It has pledged to phase out coal completely by 2040, and has meanwhile lowered the carbon intensity of the electricity it sells. Coal currently makes up 15 per cent of CLP’s fuel mix for electricity generation, with renewables contributing just 1 per cent.
Before joining Coca-Cola in 2019, Cheung was an environmental activist. She previously headed up the Hong Kong chapter of campaign group Friends of the Earth.
Cheung started her career as a scientist with engineering firm Mott MacDonald. She later pivoted to consulting, working for the likes of Environmental Resources Management and Hong Kong Productivity Council.
