IEA calls for rapid shift to renewables

The International Energy Agency reiterated its call for the cancellation of the fossil fuel subsidies in a bid to slash carbon emissions. IEA Executive Director Maria van der Hoeven said at the UN climate talks in Doha that there is an urgent need to transition fast to a more sustainable global energy system. She added, rapid deployment of energy-efficiency technologies would reduce greenhouse gases and buy the world more time to enforce a global climate agreement.
