Improving energy efficiency in Vietnamese businesses

The Ministry of Science and Technology and UNDP Vietnam held a conference to review five years of the project to promote energy conservation in small- and-medium sized enterprises (PECSME).

The project is a joint effort of the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and Vietnamese counterparts, aimed at encouraging energy efficient practices in SMEs in Vietnam and contributing to the reduction of Green House Gases (GHG) emission.

After five years of implementation, PECSME has provided assistance to 25 provinces and cities across the country to increase energy efficiency and more than 500 local businesses have received financial support to carry out energy saving projects. As a result, 232,000 tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) have been saved and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from factories have been reduced by 944,000 tonnes.

The project has also contributed to the Ministry of Industry and Trade drafting the law on energy saving and efficiency which was adopted and issued by the National Assembly.
