Indian university breezes onto wind scene

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in the Indian state of Kerala will set up a single wind turbine for testing local wind resources in a state-supported project on its 300-acre campus. Scientists from the Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET) will conduct the feasibility study in preparation for additional turbines, and will also research the effects that climate change might have on wind energy.

India’s chronic energy shortages have spurred favourable government policies and incentives for renewable energies such as wind and solar. The country’s installed wind capacity - at over 16,000 megawatts - makes India the fifth largest nation in the wind sector.
