Singapore conglomerate Keppel Corporation has hired Bennett Wong from Paia Consulting as a senior member of its sustainability team.

Wong joins Keppel after two years at the Singapore-based consulting firm, where he was principal consultant, leading the reporting and sustainable finance function.

At Keppel, Wong will be part of a sustainability team working on a plan to shift a company with interests in asset management, offshore, marine and infrastructure away from a historical dependence on fossil fuels.

The firm announced it had sold its oil rig-building business in February this year and is aiming to transform into “a global asset manager and operator, focused on investing in and creating solutions for a sustainable world,” the firm said in a statement.

In his role, Wong will work on Keppel’s sustainability commitments, which include halving the company’s direct and indirect Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. He will also work on Keppel’s sustainability disclosures.

The Singaporean firm is part of a consortium planning to develop carbon capture technology.

Wong joins a year and a half after Keppel appointed Ho Tong Yen as the company’s first chief sustainability officer.

Prior to Paia Consulting, Wong worked at Impact Investment Exchange in training and due diligence. He spent much of his career in risk underwriting for firms including Markel International and United Overseas Bank. He started his career as an analyst for Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs.
