Korean company comes forward to market solar home systems

A Korean company has initiated to market its solar home systems (SHSs), having unique features and higher capacities, in Bangladesh, officials said.

It started the move by donating three such SHSs, manufactured in Korea, in the remote areas here under the corporate social responsibility (CSR), they said.

Zero Enterprise, owned by Korean nationals, has partnered with renowned Korean manufacturer of innovative and higher capacities of SHS— Taeho Co. Ltd— to market the product in Bangladesh, along with some other neighbouring countries.

On the occasion of the CSR initiatives and the new business, Taeho Co. Ltd, represented by Zero Enterprise in Bangladesh, and KOTRA in Dhaka, commercial section of the Korean embassy, arranged a ceremony at a city hotel Wednesday.

The function was attended, among others, by Mohammad Hossain, Director General (DG) of Power Cell, Taposh Kumar Roy, chairman of Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), Jinhak Hur, Director General of KOTRA, K.H. Choi, managing director of Zero Enterprise, a number of high officials from the Power Division, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL).

Officials of Zero Enterprise and KOTRA, Dhaka, showed the pictures and videos of some enduring images of setting up the higher capacities of SHSs at Bele Danga village under the Gopalgonj district in the country.

Zero Enterprise has teamed up with KOTRA to set up three 450 watt SHSs at remote village locations in Gopalgonj and Chandpur districts.

At the ceremony, they also demonstrated how efficiently this Korean SHS functions and informed the present high officials how much it can provide service.

One of the unique features of the SHSs is rechargeable solar cell, which shortens charging time and extends the service life of battery, they said.

Another important component is non-motorised eco rechargeable generator, which is powered by solar energy; because of higher capacities (450watt to 10 kw), it is very much suitable for providing power to a group of households, school, shops, power for street vendors, among its other applications.

Mr Choi, who donated SHSs, said that higher capacities of the SHSs can support both AC (alternating current) and DC (direct current).

The company provides two-year replacement warranty for the system, which consists of eco-friendly rechargeable generator, solar module, LED lamps etc.

For quick charge and power generation, one can do so by means of rotating the handle of the generator, they said, adding that the unit is portable, and despite its advanced features with good quality battery, it is price competitive.

Mr Jinhak Hur said, “The CSR ceremony is a part of the commitment of Korean company and Korean government towards improving the living standards of the rural communities of Bangladesh.”

Solar power is very important for Bangladesh and quality SHSs from Zero Enterprise have good prospects in this market, he said.

Mr Choi sought help and cooperation from the officials concerned to the Zero Enterprise’s new business in the sector.

Appreciating the unique features of this SHS, officials representing different government agencies stressed on making the product more price-competitive and suggested the company officials on how they can market it in Bangladesh widely and efficiently.
