LGS wins award for sustainability

Local Government Super has earned its second consecutive Australian Business Award for its work in environmental sustainability.

LGS won the award for upgrading six commercial buildings to a NABERS five star rating and its role in researching the link between sustainability and the productivity of the occupants across four commercial buildings.

Chief executive, LGS Peter Lambert said the award was recognition of the fund’s best practice approach to responsible investment.

“Although the award highlights the sound practices that underpin our responsible investment strategy, we feel that it’s important to keep working on the development of systems and processes to identify, monitor and address ESG issues across all asset classes,” he said on the Financial Standard website.

“We also believe that it’s important to encourage other superannuation funds to invest responsibly. Given their fiduciary duty to all Australians, super funds are in an ideal position to integrate ESG practices into their investment decision making,” Mr  Lambert said.

LGS believes its research will potentially change the way buildings are valued by investors and their tenants.

The Australian Business Awards program awarded 103 recipients from 928 nominee organisations this year, with the environmental sustainability award for organisations that show industry leadership and commitment to the protection of the environment.
