See’s appointment comes as Eco-Business recently secured an investment by private equity investment firm Tembusu Partners in a new partnership that will boost the expansion of its ESG activities across the globe.
Eco-Business founder and managing director Jessica Cheam said: “We are excited that Meaghan has joined the Eco-Business team as we continue to pursue regional expansion. She comes with deep legal experience, wide networks and a passion for ESG and sustainability issues which will help us to deepen our coverage and expertise.”
See’s experience with sustainability and the environment dates back to her days in university and post-grad education.
Being a part of the pioneer batch of Bachelor of Laws undergraduates at the Singapore Management University (SMU), she furthered her studies at the University of California, Berkeley, which is renowned for environmental leadership.
She attained a Masters of Law at the university with specialisations in Environmental Law as well as Clean Energy and Technology Law.
Prior to joining Eco-Business, See acted as legal counsel for IG Group, a financial institution headquartered in London.
She co-headed the firm’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and women’s network initiatives in Singapore, in collaboration with the Group’s country heads spanning across Australia, Greater China, Europe and the United Kingdom
Apart from organising events along the themes of empowerment and sustainability, See led the company’s key pivot from corporate social responsibility (CSR) to ESG in 2018, further integrating the firm’s sustainability commitments into their key operations and business model.
“
With the inevitable rise of ESG playing a part in our everyday lives, there is no better time than now to bring together stakeholders, policymakers, and communities in this region for meaningful dialogues that create change.
Meaghan See, Eco-Business’s new director of partnerships
As Asia Pacific’s leading voice on sustainable development, Eco-Business is well-positioned to lead such discourse in the APAC region, See observed.
“Southeast Asian companies are fast building up momentum in looking into environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors that apply to their businesses, knowing that consumers are demanding such accountability from them,” said See.
“Policy makers are also paying attention to milestones that have been achieved outside of Asia Pacific that are steering nations into taking concrete actions against climate change and into sustainable development. With that, I am excited to be leading Eco-Business on this front in these exciting times,” she said.
Eco-Business is headquartered in Singapore with a presence in Beijing, Manila, Zurich and New York and correspondents across key Asian cities. It launched a Chinese version of the website last year and also has multi-language capabilities to publish stories in Bahasa, Vietnamese and Tagalog.
