Monitor energy usage of appliances with new NEA apps

One can now better monitor personal energy consumption and adjust usage to save energy and money, with two new mobile applications developed by the National Environment Agency (NEA).

Launched at the Youth for the Environment Day at Dunman High School today by Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Vivian Balakrishnan, the “NEA Energy Audit” mobile app allows households to find out which appliances are the top energy users at home and estimate the monthly energy costs incurred.

The second app, the “Life Cycle Cost Calculator” app, helps consumers estimate the overall costs that different models of appliances are likely to incur over the appliance lifespan when shopping for energy-intensive appliances such as air-conditioners, refrigerators and clothes dryers.

In addition, the NEA also released an Android version of NEA’s popular “myENV”, which has seen 68,000 downloads so far since July last year.

The “NEA Energy Audit” and “Life Cycle Cost Calculator” and can be downloaded from the iPhone App Store for free. In the future, the applications may be extended to other platforms such as Android and iPad.

The NEA encouraged members of the public to provide feedback and suggestions on the applications by emailing nea_contact@nea.gov.sg, or calling 1800-225-5632.
