Businesses are calling on Bangalore residents to protest the government’s lack of action toward the garbage piling up in the streets. Indian software tycoon Azim Premji said the problem is a health hazard to a bustling Bangalore that hosts multinational firms like Microsoft and Hewlett Packard and is dubbed as India’s “Silicon Valley.” Another business leader, Mohandas Pai, has asked the government to call for an emergency meeting to look for a solution.
Two months’ worth of garbage has piled up on the streets of Bangalore following the refusal of residents from nearby villages to accept the waste. The city churns out 4.5 million kilogrammes of waste every day.
