Cambodia-based non-governmental organisation, Nexus for Development has hired Mike Cipresso from Google as head of carbon finance.

He will oversee the strategy and execution of carbon finance for the non-profit, which facilitates the access to finance for renewable energy and water projects in developing Asia.

His job will also involve developing new community-based carbon offset and reduction projects in Southeast Asia, ensuring that they align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Cipresso replaces Justin Bergendhal, who moves on from Nexus after nearly six years.

Based in San Francisco, his previous role at Google focused on mobile payments and enabling digital access to government-owned public transport systems globally.

He calls time on nearly 13 years at Google. Prior to the search giant, Cipresso worked for now-defunct invesment bank Lehman Brothers — the former employer of Nexus executive director Laura Alsenas — for an eight-year stint.
